Costa Brava Golf Guide

One of Spain’s top golfing destinations, the Costa Brava is also a popular Mediterranean holiday playground. Fronting the dramatic coastline and backed by the Pyrenees Mountains, the ten or so Costa Brava golf courses here operate year round – thanks to a benign climate. Club de Golf Costa Brava

All golfers, from beginners to experts, will be at home on the 5,625-metre 18-hole, Par 70 Club de Golf Costa Brava course, with its moderate slopes and varied width fairways. Studded with cork oaks, olives, and pines, the main challenge on the first 9 holes involves dodging several trees, before chipping onto the greens. The second nine are flat and wide, with two, large, artificial lakes that end in a bay by the sea. The Club de Golf Costa Brava course has a magnificent, old clubhouse, built in 1841, where you can dine after your game, and there is a driving range, buggy hire, and a golf school.

Emporda

This relatively new Costa Brava golf course consists of two 18-hole courses – the 6,160-metre, Par 71 Links course, and the Par 72 Forest course. Rated in the top 50 European golf courses, it is a level, easy-walking course, which is very scenic, with many water features. This Costa Brava golf course has excellent, long greens, many lined with giant pines, that will challenge all levels of players, and there are a variety of playing options. You can rent apartments overlooking the course, and the clubhouse has a popular bar and restaurant. There is a driving range, and a golf school, and the well-stocked pro shop offers rental buggies and clubs.

Golf d'Aro Mas Nou

This 6218-metre, Par 72 course, 300 m above sea level in the Gavarres mountains, requires low handicap skills to get the ball across some deep ravines and to stay out the dense vegetation that lines most of the fairways. So accuracy is the name of the game at this Costa Brava golf course. The clubhouse has a restaurant, and the changing room a sauna, and there is a covered driving range, a golf school, and buggy and trolley rental.

Golf Girona

This 6,100-metre, 18-hole Par 72 Costa Brava golf course, set in the hills near Girona, has something for everyone. Course architect F.G Hawtree has taken advantage of the topography and the terrain of an old olive orchard to create a classic collection of greens. Girona has a driving range, pitching and putting greens, plus at the pro shop you can hire all golfing necessities and book individual and group lessons. The clubhouse has change facilities and a restaurant.

Platja de Pals

Surrounded by hundreds of pine trees, the compact greens of the Catalonia region’s most scenic course are relatively easy to play. This 6,222-metre, 18-hole Par 73 course, one of the most prestigious Costa Brava golf courses, offers a classic golfing experience. There is a driving range, putting and pitching greens, an international golf school, and the clubhouse restaurant has wonderful views of the greens.

PGA Catalunya

Now becoming one of the most prestigious Costa Brava golf courses, the PGA Catalunya is situated some 45 minutes north of Barcelona and is ranked 10th in Europe by Golf World magazine. This tree-lined Costa Brava golf course played host to several national and European golf tournaments and received numerous plaudits from the world's best players. This challenging layout with pronounced gradients measures a lenghty 6588 meters off the yellow tees.
